United States Fire Statistics

As you view these statistics, you will notice some interesting trends, such as

The number of fires from 1977-1998 decreased 46.21%

The number of civilian deaths from 1977-1998 decreased 45.43%

The number of civilian injuries from 1977-1998 decreased 25.93%

The number of firefighter deaths from 1977-1998 decreased 42.03%

The number of firefighter injuries from 1977-1998 decreased 22.24%

These trends show that fire protection and safety programs are working. Civilians have been taught fire safety techniques for many years now and new fire suppression system have been installed.  New Technology has played a large role in providing firefighters with useful tools such as Thermal Imaging Devices, Better breathing apparatus and much more. On the other hand these numbers could easily climb back up if continuing education and upgrading of firefighting equipment is not supported.
